Why the Twenties Roared

The Golden Gate Radio Orchestra takes us on a trip to an unusual decade! We present here eighteen favorite and archetypal tunes popular in the 1920s, typical of the optimistic, ebullient, whimsical attitude of the times. The music reflects that decade's dashing spirit.

DeSylva, Brown & Henderson, the Gershwins, Jerome Kern, "Fats" Waller, Irving Berlin, "Duke" Ellington and many more are represented here, in an array of vocals and instrumentals. In most of the selections, the Orchestra works from the original arrangements. This is how it sounded on the radio in the Twenties -- but we have eliminated most of the static.
